Hi everyone! Welcome to another episode of the Spiritual Alien Podcast.

So, to continue this series to help you Get Your Shit Together, this episode is about what to do if you did NOT reach your 2019 goals. Tonight I want you to once again whip out your phone or notepad with pen or pencil and take some notes with me. While you do that, you can pause me and I’ll wait for you or you can stay with me as I continue with the brief introduction before moving on to some points that I want you to ponder on and even ask yourself.

As I mentioned in the previous episode, at the end of every year, most of us make resolutions, write down goals and make a list of the things we wish to achieve when the New Year ends. Some of us achieve our goals and others don’t.

So, what happens when you don’t achieve your goals? Absolutely nothing as it is not the end of the world. However, you might feel very frustrated in yourself. I want you to know that it’s perfectly fine to feel down and frustrated, however, I do have a problem if you become toxic and abusive towards yourself for not meeting your own expectations. This is a programmed pattern that you have adapted to, perhaps from other people close to you like family members or friends who are abusive and toxic with you when you do not meet their expectations. I want you to be aware of your thoughts and switch your mindset if a self-defeating thought comes to mind. Replace “I never do anything right” to “I am learning new things” and see how you feel. Perhaps shocked, as it was my experience, or weirded out, but you’ll get used to it. If you are used to being abusive with yourself, you can get used to being loving with yourself.

I am going off the road here so let’s get back on track. Pause me whenever you need to, as I will now begin to make you some questions to make you wonder and ponder. So get ready!

One, is your goal or are your goals realistic? Sometimes we want to run before we learn how to crawl and there are situations in life where you are unable to jump over something or take a shortcut because you need to follow a direct path and level up before you get to where you want to be. If I want a Mercedes Benz, first I need a high-paying job, and for a high-paying job I need a degree which I will obtain next year. Do you see where I am coming from? When you break things down into steps, they will be easier to achieve and you won’t feel as overwhelmed, which will lead me to my second question.

Two, do you understand your goal or goals? We all have goals, but do you know exactly what you want to achieve and how are you going to do it? Whether you know or not, you have to break down your goal into small steps because it will give you clarity and understanding of what your next move should be, it will also not be as overwhelming for you because you are focused on the steps involved, not the goal as a whole which can be quite scary. Let’s say you want to go to college or go back to college because your end goal is to have a degree, it sounds overwhelming now, doesn’t it? Well, start by listing the goal and the steps you need to take to get there, such as browsing for the best community college or private university, then applying online for more information, then going in person to speak with an advisor…it all sounds so mundane, doesn’t it? But that’s my point, when you break it all down, it will not be as scary for you to tackle and handle.

Three, accountability! Do you have people pushing you forward? Many of us don’t achieve our goals due to pro-cras-ti-naaation. I have a PhD in procrastination with a minor in social anxiety, so letting my inner circle know about my shenanigans is something I don’t feel too comfortable with. However, it is because everyone will know what I am up to and they will routinely ask me how is the project going. Everything is fine, I say as everything around me is on fire. So, letting your friends or family know what you are up to and what you want to achieve will help you to stay focused on your goal…if they are caring and motivating of course!

Four, giving up when things get hard. I know what you’re thinking, so if you wouldn’t let your man stay like that — unless you’re both into edging — then why are you doing this to your goals? Why do you blue ball your goals? Oh this is too challenging, this is too difficult for me to understand or to do, I’ve never done this before, challenges are bad because they make my life miserable, the Law of Attraction said to wait, or this or that. Look, forget about all that stuff. I get it, life sucks sometimes, we want things to work for us, we don’t like obstacles, things get very bad very quickly sometimes, well, a majority of the time, but these are all excuses and none of them are valid, unless you are financially struggling or having health issues, in which case it is understandable, but if the latter two do not apply to you…are you seriously going to use the former five as excuses to not go after a goal? How dare you. Leave my podcast right now! Mama Z doesn’t like a quitter!

Five, fear of failure! Oh my god I am such a fucking loser, I hate myself because I can’t achieve anything, I will never do great things in life, I am not worthy of my dreams, blah…blah…blah. I want you to stop that bullshit right now. This is a highly common and popular programmed pattern that most of us have and struggle with. I will sound rough here, but I want you to fail and I want you to fail fast, because that is the only way that you will KNOW what to IMPROVE ON, and do better next time. Failing is learning. Failures can be redirections as well. So, what have you failed on and how can you improve it? Perhaps you need to ditch that and try out something else, if you feel that you no longer resonate with that goal.

Let me know if you make a list of the goals that you didn’t reach with a list within each goal of the steps you plan to take by commenting on my Spiritual Alien graphics across social media with the title of this episode, I would love to see your adjusted goals! Better yet, share a picture of your revamped goals list and tag me so I can see it!

Don’t forget, that as always, at the end of the series you will receive your FREE e-Book checklist and guidebook which you can download and receive my occasional emails once in a blue moon.
